So, why DID the chicken cross the road?

BARACK OBAMA: The chicken crossed the road because it was time for a CHANGE! The chicken wanted CHANGE!

JOHN MC CAIN: My friends, that chicken crossed the road because he recognized the need to engage in cooperation and dialogue with all the chickens on the other side of the road.

HILLARY CLINTON: When I was First Lady, I personally helped that little chicken to cross the road. This experience makes me uniquely qualified to ensure -- right from Day One! -- that every chicken in this country gets the chance it deserves to cross the road. But then, this really isn't about me...

DR. PHIL: The problem we have here is that this chicken won't realize that he must first deal with the problem on 'THIS' side of the road before it goes after the problem on the 'OTHER SIDE' of the road. What we need to do is help him realize how stupid he's acting by not taking on his 'CURRENT' problems before adding 'NEW' problems.

OPRAH: Well, I understand that the chicken is having problems, which is why he wants to cross this road so bad. So instead of having the chicken learn from his mistakes and take falls, which is a part of life, I'm going to give this chicken a car so that he can just drive across the road and not live his life like the rest of the chickens.

GEORGE W. BUSH: We don't really care why the chicken crossed the road. We just want to know if the chicken is on our side of the road, or not. The chicken is either against us, or for us. There is no middle ground here.

COLIN POWELL: Now to the left of the screen, you can clearly see the satellite image of the chicken crossing the road...

ANDERSON COOPER - CNN: We have reason to believe there is a chicken, but we have not yet been allowed to have access to the other side of the road.

JOHN KERRY: Although I voted to let the chicken cross the road, I am now against it! It was the wrong road to cross, and I was misled about the chicken's intentions. I am not for it now, and will remain against it.

NANCY GRACE: That chicken crossed the road because he's GUILTY! You can see it in his eyes and the way he walks.

PAT BUCHANAN: To steal the job of a decent, hardworking American.

MARTHA STEWART: No one called me to warn me which way that chicken was going. I had a standing order at the Farmer's Market to sell my eggs when the price dropped to a certain level. No little bird gave me any insider information.

DR SEUSS: Did the chicken cross the road? Did he cross it with a toad? Yes, the chicken crossed the road, but why it crossed I've not been told.

ERNEST HEMINGWAY: To die in the rain. Alone.

GRANDPA: In my day we didn't ask why the chicken crossed the road. Somebody told us the chicken crossed the road, and that was good enough.

BARBARA WALTERS: Isn't that interesting? In a few moments, we will be listening to the chicken tell, for the first time, the heart warming story of how it experienced a serious case of molting, and went on to accomplish its life long dream of crossing the road.

ARISTOTLE: It is the nature of chickens to cross the road.

JOHN LENNON: Imagine all the chickens in the world crossing roads together, in peace.

BILL GATES: I have just released eChicken2007, which will not only cross roads, but will lay eggs, file your important documents, and balance your checkbook. Internet Explorer is an integral part of the Chicken. This new platform is much more stable and will never cra... #R&^*^(!.... Reboot.

ALBERT EINSTEIN: Did the chicken really cross the road, or did the road move beneath the chicken?

BILL CLINTON: I did not cross the road with THAT chicken. What is your definition of chicken?

AL GORE: I invented the chicken!

COLONEL SANDERS: Did I miss one?

DICK CHENEY: Where's my gun?

New movie goodness

Saturday night, Sky and I went with his family to see the new Narnia movie. I have to give it a thumbs-up, we really enjoyed it. We are going to take the kids to see it later this week, when, hopefully- we can get free tickets.

I enjoyed most, the feeling the movie conveyed that as Christians, we really are not of this world, that we are sojourners here for a short time only. At different times in our lives, we catch glimpses of grace- much like the scene in the subway, as holes appear in the tile and glimpses of Narnia show through.

..."These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth." Hebrews 11:13

Here's a link to hear the last song in the movie, it was perfect. There's no movie music video, just the song, so I will only link it.

Next, I have to mention that the book, City of Ember has been made into a movie- we saw the preview when we went to see Narnia. The book was really, really well done-
I did a book review here*. I hope they did a good job with it. No talking dogs or obnoxious fighting pandas- but a good story that actually requires thought. A rare thing in children's movies now a days, it seems...

at home

Meg's orchestra had their final performance of the year a few weeks ago, Meg is in the center of the photo... They did a great job this year.

Things boys dream up to do on skate ramps, without skateboards. Eh, why not??

Monday morning linkage

**Urban mom asked me what TOG is, I really should have linked it in the post..
Tapestry of Grace (TOG) is a classical History curriculum, designed to work with multiple ages at the same time. TOG covers more then History, it also includes Church History, literature (tied to History), Geography, Writing, art activities and philosophy (for the older grades).
Here is a link if you want to check it out, you are able to print out a 3 week trial to see how it works in real life...

**Here is a link to the TOG discussion boards, a mom was commenting on the curriculum really being a K through mom curriculum- thoughts on using with young children, and overthinking/overplanning/over-fretting. It was a good discussion, check it out.

**A warning for moms looking for a cyber-school...please check out this link from
the carnival of homeschooling. If you are thinking of signing up with a cyber or online school, do yourself a favor and google the name of the school first. Follow the links on this, it's very alarming- and disturbing that many of the school names are distinctly "Christian", and a few of the more secular names are very close to bigger, better known cyber programs. Be careful out there.

**Last, Daedalus Children's books, really good savings on some nice books...

Happy Monday!

squeezed from all sides here in the O.C.

Attention: I just paid $3.78 a gallon for gas, here in Orange County.

it feels like this....

It took $87.00 to fill my tank.

So, I have moved from trying to arrange my chores and outings into fewer trips...to having to plan all my outings into as few trips as possible. I really, really miss my little Ford Escort days.

So, are you all feeling the pinch? Are you having to change your spending habits? From higher food prices, higher utilities and now crazy-high gas prices...things are going to have to change around here. Are you out there in other parts of the country feeling it too?
